Hi Walter If it’s a DVD Drive, you don’t format it. In theory it should just plug in and work. Some of the third party brands come with a CD to install software for Windows. (As I tend to sell the third party CD/DVD drives myself - as they are under half the price of the Apple one at $55 and do just a good of job). If however, it’s an external hard drive - that can be formatted to work Mac and Windows. (Though you lose everything on the drive when formatting it). Otherwise, if the drive is in the “older” HFS+ format you can get a driver that will read them on Windows - https://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/ That way, it can stay Mac formatted and Windows will still read it.
