Hi Brian,

I know the Apple USB Keyboard and they are such a favourite. I use the
   same and love this model.

Sounds like there is nothing wrong with the USB socket on your iMac if
it’s servicing the KB without the Numeric Keypad so I like Peter’s idea
of giving the suspect KB a try on another device.

What bothers me is the co-incidence of it not working after the
disconnect and I too wonder what may have gone wrong.

I appreciate the built-in hub is still functional which suggests the
fault with the actual keyboard is internal. I wonder if and only as a
last-resort, a gentle drop onto one of the KB’s edges will re-seat an
internal connector and let the KB live again?

Most on-line threads suggest this model keyboard is not repairable,
at-least not economically but let’s see what the Group can suggest.

BTW, would your iMac be an Intel model or one with M1/M2? Probably the
Intel if it’s “way out of warranty”.

I ask only because my same model KB does play up with my M2 Mac Mini
requiring an unplugging and re-plug after the Mac goes to sleep.
Happens with other USB KB’s so I’m hoping an OS update with fix this
annoying problem before I wear out my USB socket. 😊

Good luck with it but it does sound like it’s time for another KB.

   Cheers, Loz.

Subject: [WAMUG] Any fix for a faulty Magic Keyboard with Numeric
   Keypad?

   Hi,
I disconnected my iMac from the mains last night when I saw the
   lightening heading our way.
When I reconnect this morning the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad is
   no longer responding.
It is a USB wired keyboard not bluetooth.
The built in hub still works. The caps lock light does not come on.
The cost of getting it repaired (it is way out of warranty) would I
imagine be similar to the cost of a new one.
I can’t see any easy way into it but was wondering if there was any
hope of getting it working again. Perhaps a combination key press or
   some such thing.
I have another Magic Keyboard without the Numeric Keypad that I am
currently using. I am used to having the keypad and would like it back
   again.
   Thanks
   Brian Scott
