The police reveal that terrorist suspects have planned to attack President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and other high-ranking officials during the
independence day ceremony on Aug. 17 at the State Palace.

"Testimonies from the suspects and seized evidence disclosed that they had
chosen that option to assassinate the President," National Police chief Gen.
Bambang Hendarso Danuri told a press conference on Friday.

He said terrorists had also planned to declare that Indonesia was no longer a
democratic state and became a Sharia nation immediately after President was
killed.

Bambang also said that the option had been chosen since the suspects learned
that the security guards at State Palace during the ceremony would have no
bullets in their guns.

During a series of raids by the police's Detachment 88 anti-terror squad since
January this year, 13 terrorist suspects have been killed and 52 other arrested.

The latest raid was at a battery shop in Sukoharjo, Central Java, where the
squad nabbed three suspects.
