*CTO/Lead Developer*

Describli is looking for a CTO/Lead Developer to grow our startup into a
giant unicorn-eating monster company! The first version of the product is
built (PHP, Wordpress, HTML/CSS, JavaScript), we're in live testing with
users, and we have big ideas to grow. This is a chance to get in at the *very
beginning*, to partner with the founder on the vision, and to *shape what
this company becomes*. We're realistic in our expectations and open to a
wide variety of working arrangements (side project, part time, full time,
remote): talk to us about what you need.

About Describli <http://describli.com>: We're an online writing community
where writers can share short stories to connect with an audience *before*
they publish, so that by the time they publish their work they have a built
in group of people who want to buy it. We're turning author marketing, book
promotion, and publishing on its head - because it's broken! We've been
using Lean Startup methodologies to build the MVP, test with our users, and
iterate. We're now ready to build out a lot of challenging features,
including the main revenue generating portion of the site. We've been
accepted in to a fellowship/incubator program for the next 6 months with an
investor demo day in April. There are exciting times ahead!

Who you'll work with: Right now the company is just the Founder/CEO, and an
outsourced development team in DC/Florida. We've been working together for
over 2 years to build the product and subsequent versions, and they're
awesome. Until we hire more internal people you'll be working with the
outsourced team to build everything. You'll mostly be quarterbacking, but
you can pick and choose features that you want to work on yourself. You
will literally just work on the projects you want and outsource the rest!
Over the next 6 months we'll build out the internal team, and likely raise
angel funding in the spring. Because we are bootstrapped the position is
just equity right now, with a salary contingent on raising money.

*What you will DO:*

   - Manage the implementation of product initiatives from idea to
implementation (sketch/wireframe, specifications, initial research, liaise
with development team, build it out, test it, release, bug fix, get
   feedback, start all over again)
   - Code! (lead developer OR side projects, smaller initiatives)
   - Run user experiments and track metrics to make sure we're building
   something people love
   - Partner on vision for product as we grow
   - Set up a system for Hypothesis → Experiment → Analysis → Results →
   Next Iteration
   - Cost and time estimation for new work orders, prioritization of work
   orders
   - Create development plan – internal resources, outsourcing, freelance,
   offshoring, etc.
   - Interview and hire new developers
   - Coach and manage development staff
   - Establish and supervise a quality assurance process, including
   integration and system testing
   - Review and approve proposed development releases and manage the
   release process
   - Partner on long term growth strategy – hiring and raising milestones,
   metric milestones
   - Build seriously awesome products with a kick-ass team in a great
   environment

*Who you ARE:*

   - An Adult: You can manage your own time and priorities.
   - Passionate: You like building new things and trying crazy ideas.
   - Student: You're eager to learn, work hard, and grow with the company.
   - Teacher: You'll bring people up with you as you rise, and teach them
some cool stuff along the way.
   - Communicator: Excellent with words in spoken and written form.
Seriously, this site is for writers.
   - Human: You have your quirks, but you're generally pretty easy to deal
   with.
   - Techie: You've built great things in PHP/Wordpress/JavaScript before,
and you're excited to do it again.

*BONUS POINTS:*

   - Knowledge about Metrics and user testing
   - Ability to speak to investors about the tech side of things
   - Good network of people who might want jobs in the future
   - Computer Science degree or significant life experience
