James,
While you didn't tell us know what OS you're running, I can see from
the
the "c\:" in the error report that its some flavor of Windows (XP,
Vista, Win7, etc.)
Make sure of the following:
a) You are Logged into Windows as a user with Administrative rights
b) If installing via the Ruby one-click-installer on Vista or Win7
make sure that when you launch installer you select "run as
administrator"
c) If installing on Vista or Win7 make sure that when you launch the
console window you select "run as administrator"
d) The user has recursive write permissions to their home directory.
So the Ruby install can create it's %USERPROFILE%\.gem directory
Some large organizations may lock down the permissions.
e) The user account is local to the system, not a roaming profile.
Some large organizations may use roaming profiles which will
complicate the install process, if you are using the same user
account
to perform the installations om multiple systems. As the .gem
folder from the 1st install may need to be hidden so that the
next Ruby install does NOT use it.
You may want to a) uninstall the current failing Ruby installation,
b) manually remove any remaining %USERPROFILE%\.gem directory,
and then c) re-install making sure tofollow the tips listed above.
