You can set up Firefox to automatically download files without asking anything, and then just click the link with Watir and the file is downloaded. I have done that a few days ago. I guess you could also set up other browsers to download without asking, but I think I was able to find that setting only in Safari. I must admit I did not look so hard since I got it working in Firefox anyway.
