Actually, reading the comments his position seems a lot more reasonable.
They weren't aware http was just being considered as an option, and
there seems a general disconnect in communication due to the WiaB
apache project being about...well....the WiaB implementation, and
there not being a clear place for people to discus the protocol.

This seems a legitimate complaint to me that should be addressed to
help foster collaboration from those wanting to make their own
federated servers.
