Hello
The Wave in a Box project is based on original code of Google Wave, so it
is pretty similar, but there are some small differences.
The project is lacking with regards to documentation. But take a look at
the Wiki page, it has some references -
https://cwiki.apache.org/WAVE/wave-summit-talks.html
Also, the old project site at http://www.waveprotocol.org/protocol has some
info. And some more docs are located in the /wave-protocol/whitepapers
source folder.
Regarding mobile clients - there are some based on the Robot API. Uou can
take a look at the Splash project
http://code.google.com/p/google-wave-splash/, or the Micro-wave project -
https://github.com/antimatter15/microwave (demo at micro-wave.appspot.com).
There actually a fork of micro-wave - micro-box that was adapted to work
with WIAB at https://github.com/vega113/microbox (demo at
micro-box.appspot.com). I think there are some more, try to google them.
