I created an Ubuntu vm and followed the instructions and was able to start
the server and connect to it with a local client. I have a dns for my Ubuntu
wave server vm and have opened and forwarded 5275, 5269, and 9876.
The one oddity I saw on server start was this line (an INFO line):

INFO: Starting client frontend on host: wave.mydomain.net port: 9876
couldn't connect to XMPP server:org.xmpp.component.ComponentException:
org.xmlpull.v1.XmlPullParserException: expected start tag name and not /
(position: START_DOCUMENT seen </... @1:2)

I don't know what, if anything, this means and whether I should be worried
about it.

My major issue is that I haven't been able to get remote clients to connect.
I copied the compiled jars to my Fedora VM and, although the client appears
to connect, I see nothing in the server console nor can I create waves from
the remote client. Running the console client on Windows gives back
encoding wierdness and I haven't followed up with that.

Any ideas on remote connectivity?

Lastly, is this the correct forum to be asking regarding setup issues?

Thanks!

H
