I don't know if this is a breach of groups netiquette but the previous
thread had 60+ responses
There is a fair bit of activity on wave regarding working out a workable C/S
Protocol, for those that have access to wave you can see the current

At the recent Office Hours I posted the following question a bit late, and
Pamela invited me to post it here on the mailing list:

Hi, Regarding the client / server protocol. I realize that google has stated
that they seek community input and seem to be content to let the community
suss it out for themselves to start with.
I am wondering however if you could be induced to release your thoughts on
the matter, for example, minimal functionality that should be supported as
you see it.
I wouldn't worry too much about 'undue influence' so far we have seen devs
being able to voice fairly strong opinions etc.

I am somewhat at odds with myself.
1. I think that a plethora of diverse approaches is healthy, it fosters
competition and cross pollination of ideas. I believe that 'locking in' too
early carries the danger of inertia and bias.

2. I believe that in order to see what works we must be in a situation where
we apply it in practice, most interested parties in this may not consider
themselves to have the resources to throw at multiple implementation
experiments, holding off with practical implementations until there is a
theoretical standard could be seen to be more efficient.

Open standards are good, but should also be seen to be of a good standard ;)
