Have you tried verifying the certificates outside of the FedOne code? That is
run

$ openssl verify -CAfile sub.class1.server.ca.pem example.com.crt

Substitute example.com.crt with your cert, and sub.class1.server.ca with
the intermediate cert from CAcert.

I've also updated the Certificates wiki page with more details on
how to use the certs with the FedOne code.
