The XMPP protocol already defines how errors are reported for IQ requests. Look at section 9.3 of http://xmpp.org/rfcs/rfc3920.html
What's more important is adding the code in FedOne (and wavesandbox) that can properly deal with error responses. I'd like to add the code in FedOne, but I'd hate to do the work, only to find out that Google already has something in progress for the protocol version 0.3 implementation.
