On 3.16.3 I can still reproduce that bug.
Possibly related is this warning when I import Gdk from gi.repository:
(.:26349): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_screen_get_monitor_scale_factor: assertion
'monitor_num < gdk_screen_get_n_monitors (screen)' failed
