yep, the first case was a bug when recovering from idle, good find, thanks.
try the last commit on:
https://github.com/whot/libinput/tree/wip/touchpad-tap-palm-detect
I can't seem to reproduce the second issue though, typing, palm down + tap
always triggers a tap here.
