The first is correct; the second is misleading. A `new_id` field in the XML protocol without a specific interface specified is implemented in the wire format and by the generated C code as a (string/uint/object id) triple encoding the name of the interface, the version, and the id of the object. Most of the time, XML protocol specifies the interface, and only the object id is used. Unfortunately, you're not the first to have run into this issue: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland/-/issues/27 .
