I couldn't say for sure after seeing it, but he did have similar posture and body language. Going on the assumption that it was him, investigate who the people were that produced and were connected with the movie. Although most are probably dead by now; nevertheless, if any of those people were later connected with TAGS, ( Danny Thomas, Sheldon Leonard, Aaron Rubin, etc.), or actually anybody, it could mean that person contacted Schwump with, "Hey, I have a part for you as an extra" , because if they were trying to think of people to use as Mayberry townspeople, they would try to think of somebody very ordinary looking who would seem to be a fit for Mayberry, and he certainly was that. Find out who the casting director was for TAGS and also the movie. Also, from your connections, find out who hires extras, a casting director? And where do they usually get them from? Do extras have agents or do they just show up on a set and try to look the part? I would like to help, but I think it could be quite time-consuming - like a "cold case", but you need to follow every lead, however small. I believe it can be done, and if I get any good ideas, will pass them on for your consideration.
