Sharon, I too hated to see the look on ole' Barn's face when he found out
Thelma Lou was married. I guess we have to realize that when Don Knotts left
the show, they may not have known whether he would ever be back for any future
episodes and when they wrote the reunion show Thelma Lou leaving town and
getting married seemed like a good idea. I would have preferred Thelma Lou to
have still been single for the High School Reunion and she and Barney show up
at Andy's house afterward wanting to get married by the Justice of the Peace in
his night shirt and cap just like the episode "A Fued is a Fued" in season 1.
We have the advantage of hindsight and know that those two were meant to be
together.
