Someone may have already mentioned this, but I just read of the passing of one of Mayberry's favorite character actors, Allan Melvin, on January 17. Allan was in eight episodes of TAGS, according to IMDB (www.imdb.com/name/nm0578510) and played bad guys and good guys equally well. He was in cahoots with Mrs. Lesh, recruited Ernest T. into the Army, and kept Barney from changing out of his uniform for a while, among other roles. Of course, he's also well-known as Cpl. Henshaw in "The Phil Silvers Show," Sgt. Hacker in "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C," Sam the butcher in "The Brady Bunch" and Archie's friend Barney in "All in the Family" and "Archie Bunker's Place" (plus a bunch of cartoon voices).
