To: Untrained Voice who said Dating Laura Lee Hobbs would be Cheap

Here we came, me and Lydia, after a hard day clerking at the dime store and
watching out for gold trucks, all ready to relax and
read the Digest, when lo, I beheld what The Untrained Voice said about
me being a cheap date. Sir, you may call me many things, and the Good Lord
knows many people have, but never, ever call me a cheap date! That offends
me mightily.
Yes, I'll admit to staying out in the sun too long, and perhaps I have taken
a few too many pots to the head, (Lord knows I am a nut), but as a woman I
still have my pride. And I am a prize worth paying for.
Unfortunately, I ain't had all that many bidders lately. Come to think of
it, maybe I ought to reconsider and lower my asking price.
It couldn't hurt.
Call me, Untrained Voice, I'm open to negotiations.

getting less expensive by the hour

a-dragging that albatross behind him."

Hi Folks,

My wife and I were watching an old rerun of "The Dating Game" last
night on the Game Show Network, and you won't believe who the contestant
was...Ronny Howard! He mentioned "The Smith Family," which was a
short-lived series he starred in after TAGS (he played a policeman's son on
this show, too). The Smith Family aired from 1971 and 1972, so he would
have been about 17 at the time. The girl he ended up picking for his date
played Alice (of Wonderland fame) at Disney Land.

It was wonderful to watch Entertainment Tonight/ Weekend and see Ron
Howard & all the cast of " Happy Days " reflecting on their years
together, but it was especially touching to see pictures from TAGS &
hear Ron make reference to TAGS being a wonderful experience. I think
it would be great if " Entertainment Tonight/Weekend " did a TAGS
retrospective.........Lotsa Luck to You & Yours.

The Tube is a station in Houston that has Andy Griffith reruns. The only bad
thing is that it only shows the color episodes during the week. On Sunday
afternoon, it does show a B & W episode. It says it is a Screen Gems
network, and Viacom owns the rights to Andy Griffith. Do they own this also?
Can anyone shed some light on this subject?

Hey To All,
Just wanted to say one of my favorite color TAGS is where Aunt Bea gets the
wig. The scene early in the show with Andy and Floyd discussing the new
guest minister coming and the pros and cons of Rev.Tucker rivals the very
funniest Floyd scenes. Also the scene with Andy trying to help Aunt Bea get
the wig on when the minister shows up early cracks me up.
Thare are alot of great color episodes.
You just have to watch them with a little different mind set i.e. Don't over
expect.

Hey ya'll ! Just finished up a set here at the Safari Club...kinda slow
tonight...I heard tell that a couple of Marine battalions are off on a
training exercise, so that would explain it! :-)

My favorite color episode is called "Eat Your Heart Out" It's the one
where Goober gets a crush on Flora, the new waitress down at the diner.
I love the way she serves Andy big ole portions because she has a crush
on him, not Goober. And I just crack up when Flora practically throw a
pie plate at Helen and the pie looks like Flora had kicked it across the
kitchen floor before she put it on the plate!!!
And when tasting something yummy, I always try to say, "It's delish!"

Now speaking of using TAGS quotes in every day life; I'm sure some of
you remember my story of when my hubby, Elvisfife, took his 8 yr old
little girl to the dad & daughter dance. He presented her with a wrist
corsage I had made and said,"A girl such as yourself shouldn't go to a
dance unadorned!" Yes he made me proud! Well I had made some delish
white beans and ham at work on Friday and had brought home the
leftovers. As we were having dinner, I asked Elvisfife if he was
enjoying the beans cause he was so quiet. His answer? "Well, I've had 3
servings; if that ain't a testament to white beans, I don't know what
is!!!" I swear, it brought tears to my eyes! And to think when I first
met him he didn't even know the license number of the squad car!

Subject: Who do you resemble?

After I got to thinking of my fave color episode, I had to watch it! My
hubby made the comment that me and Flora looked like we could be
sisters! He is right, there is a strong facial resemblance and we have
basically the same bone structure. (I just have more meat on my bones
than Flora does!) So anyway, I thought it would be interesting if anyone
else thinks they resemble a Mayberry character. And I mean on the
outside, physical looks, not a kinship of the heart! Heck, we all got
that, don't we? Can't wait to hear from ya'll!

Subject: jumprope rhymes

Thanks to Aunt Bea of Orlando for replying to me with what I was looking
for! I wonder if someone out there in Mayberry land know the words to the
jumprope rhymes that Barney used. There were 3 that I know of and the only
one that I know the words to is " Call for the doctor".
There is another that I have some of the words to and it goes,"my
mother your mother lives across the way, every night they have a fight and
this is what they say,.........................," I couldnt quite make out
the rest of it but when Barn got through one of the townsmen across the
street yelled"Hey Barney! You want to come over and play jacks with me
later?"
There is another one in an epilogue I believe where a state official
or someone walks into the sherriffs office with andy and there is Barney
jumping rope singing a rhyme.......LOL.
I am trying to get these words so my daughters can jump rope with
real style! They are only 3 and 5 but already know one of them! Thanks!

Subject: Mayberry bleed-overs on Matlock

I've taped a lot of the Matlock shows and last night I was watching one where
they were in church for choir practice. Now Andy (I mean Ben) has delighted
Mayberry fans by making subtle Mayberry references that only TAGS fans would
recognize. This always brings a nodding of heads and smiles at my house.
Anyway, in this particular show, they were practicing a song and the choir
director nodded to the organ grinder to begin and I was thinking - Wouldn't
it have been swell if he had said "Again Hazel". That would have made my
day. I don't understand why they don't consult me when they write these
scripts. After all, I am

My favorite color episode is The Wedding. Howard's mother weds and moves

away. Howard turns the place into a swinging bachelor pad with pillows
on
the floor, beads and everything. He throws a wild singles party complete
with
swiss cheese sandwiches and root beer. Emmett, who wasn't invited
because
he's married, crashes the party and steals the show with his dance
routines.
This is the episode Terry Garr is in, though only for a few seconds.

With your TV remote, click on your memu and go to where it says "color" and
just turn that sucker all the way to the left which should cut it totally
off. That's been my approach to it.

Hey Folks,

As a note, you can by a Head Halter Traction Set that looks almost exactly
like the one Barney used to grow taller ("Barney's Physical": Episode #131)
at any medical supply store. I have one myself. So you, too, can try to make
yourself a little taller by hanging around in the closet like Barney.

Hey Folks,

I wanted to pass this along so y'all to be on the lookout tonight!!! Jeanne
emailed me and told me:

*****

"Allan,

Yesterday I was called by the producer of "60 Minutes" and told that I'm on
the third segment tomorrow night - about halfway through it. My interview
with Morley Safer was last summer. (Try as I could, I couldn't work in
TAGS.) The segment is not about me. It's about professional speaking.
Don't know how long I'll be on or even the "thrust" of the story. If a
news story breaks out, the segment could be bumped. In that event, it will
be aired on another Sunday.

On another note, on April 26th, I have a one hour special on PBS statewide in
North Carolina at 8 p.m. It's a funny show, but unfortunately, they cut the
TAGS portion which featured me asked an audience member (Barney Chapter
member Shelton Fields) to complete sentences from episodes. (He got every
one of them right. No surprise if you know Shelton.) The TAGS part is
included on the video which will be released the day after the show. You
may want to spread the word to WBMUTBB chapter members.... 'specially those
in NC. I'd welcome a big viewing audience.

Jeanne says Bye."

******
You guys try and catch Jeanne tonight on 60 Minutes!!! Jeanne has been a
member for several year and I've had the pleasure of hearing her speak in
person and if you have a chance...don't miss it because you'd sure enjoy
hearing her for yourself.
