 Mayberry, now more than ever

Subject: Mayberry, now more than ever

Dear Allan and the rest of our extended Mayberry family,
Earlier this year, when I joined WBMUTBB, I was asked to provide a little
info about myself. With my head down, I admitted that in the past I had been
nothing more than a racist, hatemongering skinhead. All my "friends" and I
fed off each other's hatred. We knew how to bring out the evil in each other,
and that combined evil was our strength. I finally changed my ways, but I
felt that I had forever lost my sole. No amount of repentance could erase
what I had been. A certain tattoo on my chest screams out my past every time
I look in a mirror.
So what does any of this have to do with TAGS? I think it has everything
to do with TAGS. You see, all my life I had been around people who looked for
the worst in me, and they found it. But Mayberry is a place where people
looked for the best in people....and found it. Mayberry is a place of
imperfect people trying to overcome their imperfections together. Their
thoughts and attitudes and morality created Mayberry. And the Sheriff
provided tolerance, tempered with strength.
I think of these thing now because of the recent attacks on our country.
We're seeing our countrymen come together as they would have in Mayberry.
With a little more compassion for each other, a little more kindness shown in
our daily lives, and the knowledge that justice will eventually prevail.
People tend to think that TAGS is in the past, and that Mayberry is a
fictional place. But they are wrong. The lessons learned in each episode of
TAGS are as relevant today as they were 40 years ago. And Mayberry is a real
place. It's that piece of us that wants to love and cherish each other, that
wants to reach out to other's in their hour of need. It's that part of us
that sees that we are one people.
I know this note is rather long and pointless, but I just needed to talk
today. Thanks for listening.
