Speaking of Perry Mason, didn't Frances Bavier appear in one episode? Had
something to do with lipstick being a central clue...

Since I'm a college administrator in real life, I think I'd be the Dean at the
Barber College
Don Good
(but not an alumn of Bradberry Business College)

I know this sounds crazy but if I could live in Mayberry I would want to be
a homemaker. I could spend my days volunteering at the school, shopping on
main street and being involved in the many womens organizations of Mayberry.
I might even make some pickles but I doubt I could beat Clara Edwards for
first prize. I can't think of a better place to raise children than
Mayberry.
I hope you all have a very Mayberry Christmas!!

>>>BTW, look in the background in some episodes and you'll see a couple of
Impalas and a fairly persistent '59 Chevy Bel-Air. Apparently someone in
Mayberry gave GM some business!

It's fun to look at the old cars on TAGS, isn't it? Nearly all were Fords,
but you're right, an occasional GM or Chrysler product could be seen. In
the later years, a VW beetle can be seen in a couple of episodes.
The Ford Motor Company provided all of the squad cars seen on TAGS, and most
of the other cars too (the same five or six cars were used over and over in
almost every episode). However, sometimes a scene would come up which
required a dozen or more cars. When this happened, the crew members would
park their own cars on the back lot, which explains why not every car seen
in Mayberry is a Ford.
Speaking of Fords, I read an article about police cars a few years ago which
stated that thanks in large part to the publicity generated from TAGS, Ford
reigned supreme throughout the 1960s as the car of choice for real police
departments. The fact that Dodge and Chevy didn't offer a police package
with a V8 was also a significant factor.

>>>By the way, does anyone know what Burns is doing now? I know he did a
voice on "the Simpsons" a year or two ago..
He was the voice of Vince in the popular long-running series of crash-test
dummy commercials, but now that Lorenzo Music (voice of Larry, the other
dummy) has died, it's doubtful any more of those ads will be produced.
Does anyone remember the TV commercial from a few years ago where Barney
Fife lectures the dummies? It was great! They took stock footage from
"Lamwan Barney" and worked it in with shots of Vince and Larry sitting in a
car. Barney's footage was from the scene where he tried to get the two
tough farmers to stop selling their produce on the side of the road. It
went something like this:
Barney: You two must be strangers around here. I'd better straighten you
out! You just happen to be violating section 17B, article 4.
Dummies: That's right, we'd better make sure EVERYBODY wears their seat
belts (or words to that effect.)
Barney: Let's get THAT vehicle OUTTA here!

>>>Aunt Bee mentioned that someone (boy with adenoids removed) was going to
a small college in Connecticut. Paul are you keepin a running list? For
Maryland..Opie referred to Johnny Unitas of the Baltimore Colts.
Maine??
I'm sorta keeping the list in my head. I'd forgotten about that Connecticut
reference - thanks Joe!
Another Baltimore reference is in "Floyd the Gay Deceiver;" Madeline Grayson
claims to own a home in Baltimore. Another Michigan reference is in the
episode "Floyd's Barbershop" when Harry says that Detroit started out as a
small town, then shot up overnight.
I don't think there is a TAGS reference for Maine, so let's continue with
the rest of the M's: Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana.
