Thanks to MrsLesch for reminding me of one of my all-time favorite
lines, "I before E, except after C, and E before N in chicken." One of my
life's goals is to be in a situation where I can use that line.
I highly recommend to anyone the movie "A Face in the Crowd." Ol' Ange
is great ! His character is kind of like Sherriff Taylor's evil twin.

I only remember 2 scenes involving a bathroom. One where Opie comes out of
the bathroom after supposedly brushing his teeth. He goes back in after he
and Andy have a talk. The other has Gomer brushing his teeth while he's
Andy's house guest. Remember No 'Count Mule?

I guess what you really mean is "do we ever SEE any bathrooms in Mayberry."
The answer is yes: we see a bathroom in the Taylor home in a couple of
episodes, including "Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee" and "Gomer the House
Guest."

The character is a pretty standard, down-home, good old boy Griffith
character....at least on the surface. There's a tremendous dark side to
'Lonesome' Rhodes that becomes more prominent as he rises to fame and
fortune...Kind of a smart Will Stockdale (of 'No Time For Sergeants') and JR
Ewing of Dallas rolled into one...

...Great film! It used to come around in AMC's rotation every so
often.

I've got a weird observation. I've never seen any bathrooms in mayberry or
heard
of anyone using the bathroom. I don't know why I thought of that. Are
there any
bathrooms in mayberry?

A couple of bathroom scenes that come to my mind....One is where Opie comes
out and Andy questions him about brushing his teeth and tell him the story
about the little boy who never brushed his teeth and they fell out.
Another one is when Opie confronts the bully and I believe Opie and Andy
are standing in or in front of the bathroom that morning before he goes to
school.

I HAVE to comment on this. On 60s TV, going to the bathroom was a personal
and private thing - not something to be shown to millions of people. It
seems like every movie I see these days, somebody is going to the bathroom
complete with sound effects. Does Hollywood think we really want to SEE
this? What are they THINKING? One reason I love TAGS is because the writers
gave us credit for enough intelligence to know what was going on in certain
circumstances (i.e. Barney & Juanita) without Show & Tell. To answer your
question - yes, there were bathrooms in Mayberry - Opie brushed his teeth in
one.
Goober Linda - My bathroom has two blue-tick hounds guarding the door.

The first thing that comes to mind is in "Gomer the Houseguest" when Andy is
trying to sleep and Gomer is in the Bathroom gargling. I assume it's the
bathroom as we see Gomer in front of the mirror over the sink.

I don't ever remember anything about bathrooms except maybe when Gomer was
the house guest and he was gargling and looking at himself in the mirror. I
read somewhere that the first time a full bathroom was shown, was on Leave It
to Beaver, they even showed the commode!

I had a moment of Mayberry pride myself last night. My
daughter was in her 6th grade winter band concert. She is a
member of the percussion section and told me she had a
special surprise for me.

The second song started and the kids in the percussion
section rotated positions. They had more bodies than parts
required in that song, so Alison didn't really have a part.
She knew I was watching and she picked up some cymbals from
the rack and just stood with them and struck a pose and
grinned at me. Yep, my baby girl was an official "stand by
cymbalist" just like ole Barn. They were some off-brand
like Zildjian or something, I think for all the school taxes
we pay they could have sent off to Cymbal City for the
Andre Kastelonitz Marchers, don't you?

By the third song she got promoted to a real cymbalist, but
she didn't crash them in the mayor's ear or anything cool
like that.

"Has anyone seen the Movie ..."A Face in the Crowd" starring Andy Griffith?"

Yes it's an outstanding movie with an incredible performance by Andy in a
role quite different from Sheriff Taylor. Director Elia Kazan really worked
with Andy to create the paranoid character of "Lonesome Rhodes". Highly
recommended.

"It appears from all
camera angles to be smack dab in the middle of town, but doesn't appear
in any other episodes or photos I've seen. Could someone fill me
in--have I been holding my "viewfinder" hands at the wrong angle, was it
just a prop, or did Mayor Pike waffle again and have it cut down?"

Yes, apparently it was only needed for that one episode and was brought in
and placed in the center of the street and the platform built around it and
then dismantled after the episode was shot. Also in that episode, Floyd is
referred to "Floyd Colby" rather than Lawson.

Howdie all!

First, I want to wish all my Mayberry friends a very
Happy Valentines Day. I hope all of you are with the
one you truly love.

I don't want to run this subject into the ground, but
I would like to comment on Michael's entry. I believe
everyone has the right to their own opinion. We have
to remember, that is what makes the world special and
unique. I also happen to agree with Michael in that
there have been times when I have gotten up and left a
show because of the language and content. When asked
why I was leaving I commented that it was getting late
and I needed to go home. This said not to lie,
because it was getting late, but to protect the
feelings of my friends who had been so kind to invite
me to the show.

With all that said, I also agree with Allan Newsome
and David Browning. It is sometimes very difficult to
imagine an actor such as Betty and Howard in anything
else other than TAGS. However, they are in fact
actors and they do a great job portraying other
charactors.

I hope everyone has a great Valentines Day. Remember
to give your sweetie a kiss. Michael, keep spreading
the Good News!

Lisa (Pussycat)

Hello everyone!

This is about the question of bathrooms in Mayberry. One time that comes to
mind is when Gomer is combing his hair while staying with the Taylors after
being fired by Wally. Seems like he was standing in front of the bathroom
mirror and singing at the top of his lungs. Though I do tend to get things a
little mixed up at times.

Lots of luck to your and yours,

Just got to thinkin' some of us see various Mayberry characters on
stage....and in other forms of media....and often times we are
disappointed...let down.....and walk away feeling a little sad.....because
these folks just don't look and act like they did on TAGS. Kinda made me
think that you just can't completely duplicate the genre of Mayberry...it
just can't happen. Oh we go to Mayberry Days and we can try to re-live
the "good-ol' days"....but in reality....the best times are those when we
can curl up in front our TV's and see a good episode of
Andy...Barney...and the whole bunch. And, when I watch those
episodes....I'll be honest with you....I slip off to Mayberry and sit on
the bench with Floyd and think about Calvin Coolidge.....a two chair
shop....and even a hot lather machine......

just ramblin.......gotta go......I think Jimmy's in the dynamite again!

I don't recall ever hearing of a bathroom being mentioned. As a matter of
fact...the only time you saw someone taking a bath...was when Briscoe
Darling was gettin' washed up...but that was
outside....(Incidentally..that was the only time that a grown man was seen
without a shirt on in TAGS.....Opie came to breakfast one morning sans
shirt.....but Aunt Bee nipped that in the bud!)

No bathrooms.....but Barney's parents did have a septic tank! Where did
they live?

Gotta go.........Uncle Ollie is blastin' that siren again!

Hey everyone! Kelly, I too have noticed there are no bathrooms (or at least
toilets) seen in Mayberry. In one of my favorite episodes where Aunt Bee
thinks she's going to have to marry the dry cleaner (Mr. Goss) to help Andy
get a mother for Opie, a bathroom is seen but just the sink...Opie is
brushing his teeth (or trying to fool Andy into believing he has brushed
them) and the sink is there but no toilet. Neither is there a toilet in the
jail cells down at the courthouse...I feel it was probably because the
viewing public had a different concept of "privacy" than we do today. It
seems now nothing is left up to the imagination or to assuming; of course,
again this is what makes Mayberry so special, it's not really meant to be
like the so-called "reality" TV of today (thank God!)

Easily entertained, are ya?
Actually-- believe it or not (it's TRUE,
I swear it-- ask Allan)-- the very FIRST
time a bathroom (toilet and all) is seen
on TV was on LEAVE IT TO BEAVER!

In the days of B&W, a man and a woman could
be on the same bed unless two of their feet
were on the floor. If an entire person was IN
a bed-- the other had to be in ANOTHER one--
think about it... LUCY and everybody else were
in TWIN beds... ALL THE TIME!

I believe Opie is seen brushing his teeth one night
before bed in their bathroom, (after trying to trick
Andy about whether or not he had really brushed his
teeth). Also isn't Andy seen shaving one morning?

I always wondered about a bathroom in the courthouse?
Is it behind the door that is seen in some episodes to
the far left of the cells?
