Subject: A few questions~

1. what does "R.F.D." stand for?
2. how far does andy live from the court
house?
3. Goobers filling station looks remote-
does he live close to "myers lake"?

RFD stands for Rural Free Delivery, a system whereby the postal service
delivers mail to those in rural areas at no extra charge.

On an old computer, I had many different sound waves from the Andy Griffith
show attached to various areas of my computer such as when I received mail,
or when a buddy came online. I have a new computer now and would like to
know what website I can go to in order to download these? I went to one, but
it would not let me move them to my sounds program. If anyone can help,
please e-mail me directly.

Thank you,

Yes, the little cowboy's name was Leon and he was always offering someone a
taste of his peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

His name was Leon, but I always call him "No Thank You Leon" because he
always got that response after thrusting out his half eaten pb&J
sammitch to offer it to folks

Clint Howard played Leon on TAGS, He was on several episodes and
usually had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that he tried to share with
folks. Which generated his signature line of "No Thanks Leon".

Did I miss something somewhere? I was confused when I read the question about
Andy and Helen's son.
I didn't know anything about that. Can someone shed some light for me.

"Now don't start on that imaginary son of yours!"

I was watching the old "Twilight Zone" the other day, and saw an episode
featuring John "Colonel Harvey" Dehner, along with the guy who played
Wally in "Man In A Hurry".

Also in that episode was Otis' brother, Ralph Campbell who was the
bartender.

I may have missed the beginning of this string, but somehow the misguided
notion has crept onto the board that the "southern" pronunciation of
"envelope" is somehow in error.<<<<

I think you did miss the first comment. The questioner was really pointing
out how Goober says the last part of the word. Like En-vellup. Your snazzy
dictionary demonstrated the correct pronunciation as Enve--lope with a long
O.

My favorite Gooberism is "ort". He ort-ta know better, Andy! instead of
"ought" ...as least that's the way we say it in my parts.
------
I mentioned a while back that the movie "Captain Corelli's Mandolin"
provides an interesting rendition of a TAGS favorite "Santa Lucia". Seeing
it again of video, I picked up another very quick TAGS reference. Captain
Corelli mentions the song "Finiculi Finicula", remember that one?
-----
I read something interesting many may already know. Did you know that Jack
Dodson (Howard) wasn't such a Mama's boy after all. He actually suggested
that they write-off his mother so the character of Howard could be expanded
a little. So that's why she disappeared! Also, according to "Inside
Mayberry" Howard was ultimately Warren's replacement when they determined
that another deputy would not work. (couldn't fill the Fife shoes).

Hi: I don't think this pronunciation of "envelopes" (aka "n-vellups") is
just a North Carolina thing. My grandparents were countryfolk from far
eastern Kansas (7 miles from the Missouri border), and they always pronounced
it "n-vellups" too. Somehow, by the next generation, my parents were
pronouncing it "ehn'-ve-lopes" (but not "ahn'-ve-lopes"). Growing up in that
area, I heard Goober's "n-vellups" pronounciation now and then. Happy
spring to all of you and yers . . . . Larry in CO

Anita, it was always "chester drawers" in our house! But, afterall, I'm the
one who just wrote to say my grandparents also pronounced the word,
"n-vellups"! Larry in CO
