An article in "The TENNESSEAN", newspaper, was reporting about a new
restaurant in Nashville. The place is called "White Trash Cafe".
The owner has different things for sale and the proceeds go to the
Nashville Humane Society. One of the items for sale was donated
by a cousin, the item was "Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook". George 'Goober'
Lindsey and Jim 'head Goober' Clark were at the restaurant and
signed the cookbook for the owner. The cookbook will be auctioned off and
the donations will benefit the Nashville Humane Society.
If some of you don't know Jim Clark is a co-author of the cookbook and he
started TAGSRWC. We need to thank Mr. Clark for starting the club.
I thought this was neat to read in the morning newspaper before work.
Margaret

I heard 'em sing that at the George Lindsay Appreciation Day in Nashville
near 'bout 10 years ago. It's on an album called "Rebels Without a
Clue." Maybe it was re-titled or maybe it's on more than one.
BTW, I won 3rd place in the Goober look-a-like contest that day! (Jim, I
still have the picture you sent me.)

Last night, Barn had put his bullet in his gun because it was turning green
in his pocket. I find that hard to believe given Barney's propensity for
bullet maintenance - just ask ol' Asa at the bank.

TAGS fans,
One thing that has struck me about so many of the one-liners that have
been sent in was that, if shown to someone who had never seen the show,
they would either a] not be particularly funny, or 2] wouldn't make sense.
But that's what makes me appreciate the writing of TAGS even more. The
reason so many of those one-liners make me laugh or smile wasn't because of
just the line, but because it immediately conjured up thoughts of the
context. A single line (from a speech or novel or whatever) that sticks in
the public mind is an accomplishment, but some great lines are the only
thing remembered about their original source. Politicians hope for a catch
phrase that'll make people remember the whole speech, but often we just
remember the catch phrase.
I guess I'm just saying that the TAGS writers did a magnificent job of
creating not just these great on-liners, but great context to go with them,
which is why we enjoy the lines so much.
And my favorite line (today, anyway): "Barney, go out there and make
Nelvin take down them disease signs!"

My husband and I were signing the infamous tax forms on the morning of the
15th getting ready to mail them. We had checked and re-checked them, making
sure everybody was in his correct "en-vellop". We licked the last seal,
looked at
each other and I said, "Well babe, I think we got her if she don't jump!"
Just
seemed kind of appropriate for the occasion.
My best to you and yours!

Hey Midwest friends. I have ended up with a couple extra tickets for the
Mayberry in the Midwest show in New Castle Indiana on July 19. I purchased
them for my in-laws, but now they have to go to a class reunion. (we know
how much fun Class reunions are "Nate Bracey Nate Bracey Nate Bracey)
If you think you might be interested or would like more info, write me a
line! You'll see Goober, Ernest T, Thelma Lou, The Darlings, and of
course--Allan Floyd Newsome, and the Mayberry Deputy, David Browning. It's
gonna be great (but I don't know about any door prizes) The price is $25.00
each.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi neighbors,
I attend a 'twelve step' group on Friday nights. Do
you know how hard it is not to talk about my 'compell-
sions'?
No, I'm not a 'kleptominerac'. But, I do probably need
'therapetic' help! Maybe someday they'll invent an
'electronal' marvel to help a Mayberrian like me!

I don't know how many of our members watch the show Trading Spaces on The
Learning Channel, but it is a favorite of my brother's and mine. The other
night, he found a picture of one of the designers with an Andy and Barney
tie on. We also both love Mayberry, so he emailed the picture to me. I think
it was on the TLC website. Andy and Barney are everywhere!!! :)

[Barney talking to Andy about what he wants to say to Thelmer Lou]: "When I'm
eatin' breakfast, I look down at my eggs and see your face right in there."
(What a romantic man Barney is!)
Also during that episode: "Thelma Lou, you're the cat's!"

I believe that the ultimate one liner from TAGS and later 'Gomer Pyle USMC'
is "Shazam!" This expression is so succinct and direct that it defies
meaning. Whereas "Gollee!" was an innocent expression of wonder, "Shazam!"
was a more positive outcry of revalation.
