I'm about 5 years younger than Opie so I didn't remember many of the shows

Mayberry" when school was out in the summertime and was part of CBS's daytime
lineup from the late '60s to 1970.

Subject: Theory of Evolution

HI GANG....

Bet that subject line perked a few eyebrows, lol. But the theory of
evolution exists on many TV series, especially TAGS. With the
discussion lately of Andy's grouchy spells, I mentioned THAT about two
years ago here on the digest, that it seemed he was short tempered with
Opie like when he would say "don't you have something to do", but it was
all in comedy at the point of Opie trying to agree with anyone else who
was not agreeing with Andy, lol. The evolution of the show began after
the first season when Andy had more of a southern accent, kind of more
of a "rube sheriff" as he was called in a couple of episodes. As the
episodes with more pigment than black and white came along--(see, I
didn't say color, hehehe)...the writers changed direction a bit again,
and I think it was mainly because characters were getting older, like
Opie, and new characters were included. If you recall Andy had his
temper flares in the B&W episodes too, like when the freezer quit and he
kept yelling at Aunt Bee to "CALL THE MAN". Just some thoughts from
underneath this bucket. I use a plastic bucket to think under these
days because when I use that metal one, I pick up short wave stations
thru the handle. Oh, one more suggestion again for the new members (and
welcome by the way)
PLEASE use the subject line when you reply to the digest so your topic
will show up in the index.
THANKS and happy motoring!!!

Hey Thel,

As a southern boy, I can tell you that Warren did have the most
un-southern accent on TAGS. Warren's accent does sound like someone from
Massachusetts. Warrens daddy must have been from Boston because Floyd
does not have a northern accent of any kind. Floyd was a Lawson and
Warren was a Ferguson, so Warrens mamma and Floyd must have been brother
and sister. Also, I want to know why Warren was eventually not on TAGS,
because in the later episodes Andy was by himself.

Have a great Mayberry Day!

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I am absolutely "Goin' Coconuts" about Harvey Bullock coming to this year's
'Mayberry Days.' He was one of the most prolific writers on the show. Jim
Fritzell, Everett Greenbaum, Jack Elinson, and Charles Stewart would be the
others in that elite company. Whereas Jim and Ev were a team and Jack and
Charles were a team;Harvey cranked out 26 scripts by himself. He wrote 5
shows episodes with Ray S. Allen. When he wrote his last episode of TAGS,"The
Legend of Barney Fife", I was on the brink of conception. I was still
"lurking" when this episode originally aired. I've heard the saying "Never
mind the bullocks" but I don't know the meaning of it. This is one guest we
can be mindful of and grateful to. The 2002 'Mayberry Days' should make Mt.
Airy a "City on the Edge of Forever."

Hey All!

>From the last view emails, it is looking like we are heading toward another
case of the punch in the nose. Lets just all say "the case is closed."

I have a question though, when was the first mention ever made of the fact
that Barney had left Mayberry? In other words when did the original
audience back in the 60's realize why Barney was not on the show anymore?

"No it's not our fault, it's YOUR FAULT!"

Alan: I'm not sure how to turn off the quoting feature on my email. I didn't
mean to send the whole list. Am I doing this right?

Dialogue help requested!

Greetings all. I'm working on a humorous speech for Toastmasters about
gossip. I am including a bit of dialogue from a Mayberry episode as outlined
by Jim Clark and Ken Beck in "The Andy Griffith Show Book." From page 57 in
the chapter dedicated to everybody's favorite aunt...Miss Bee Taylor.

It starts Aunt Bee: "Well don't you want to hear what she said?" Andy: I
thought you said you weren't gossiping with her." Aunt Bee: "I wasn't
gossiping. She was gossiping, I was just listening."
Andy: "Oh, Oh you were just listening, Oh." Aunt Bee: "Well I couldn't walk
away that would be rude." Andy: "Oh I see it's rudder to be rude then to be
gossiping." Aunt Bee: Well she knows anything I say won't go one bit
further." Andy: "Good for you again, Aunt Bee." Aunt Bee: "Well don't you
want to hear what she said." I can picture the scene in my mind and even
hear it but for the life of me the rest of the episode is blacked up.

Thanks in advance for your help and remember what Emma Watson always said,
"We're not gossiping we're just spreading the news!" Skippy, one of
Mayberry's fun girls.

I suppose the 'out of our minds' thing that has been
written about, has run it's course. But I'm glad to be
out of my mind. I find anything outside Mayberry
County too unbearable!

As far the major contributors, Paul, etc., they make
me laugh hysterically...Only a Mayberry frame of mind
could bring that kind of humor out. Allan is my 'main

It's hard to see to type with this bucket on my head,
but it's the only way I can think.

p.s. I too enjoyed my Moon Pie with RC when visiting
the South as a kid. We northerners just didn't have
the Moon Pie back then. Only I recall RC being called
RC co- cola down south. Was Moon Pie ever enjoyed by
anyone on TAGS? Or just the Mr. Cookie Bar...

Hi All, Being 50, I was a child of the late 50's, early 60's. As a child, we
had family re-unions each year, on or about the 4th of July. The reason I
mention this, I just received the "Mayberry Memories" book I ordered at
Weavers, and in a strange way, looking at the pictures of the TAGS cast,
evokes the memories of MY childhood. So, to a certain someone,(who will remain
nameless, so as to NOT break any rules), if that makes me unhealthy in your
eyes, sorry but, it makes me feel GOOD, and I KNOW that is not unhealthy. At
the risk of sounding like a commercial, I recommend this book HIGHLY. It is
interesting to see the camera crew in the back ground of the pictures of the
cast that are imposed in our minds, which only goes to prove the quality of
the actors of TAGS, that we, as fans, were so swept up in the fact that TAGS
WAS a "real' place!!! John.

Sorry to belabor the point...but, I just HAD to weigh in on this latest
thing about going overboard with our Mayberry gusto.

Okay, so maybe I use too much Mayberry language...
But, it's better than the rest of the language I hear out there...

So, maybe I can quote too many lines from Mayberry conversations...
But, it's better than the rest of the conversations I hear that I could
quote...

Maybe I adore those characters with a kinship like family...
But, I'd rather group myself with those people than any other TV OR real
people out there...

Maybe I laugh a little too much at the Mayberry sense of humor...
But, for Pete's sake, it's better than the crude humor you hear everywhere
else...

Maybe I live in the Mayberry world too much...
But, it's better than what this world has to offer in the way of language,
humor, relationships, personalities, Godliness, character, kindness, and any
other trait or reality that one could put to the test...Mayberry vs. the
real world.

I guess, to me, this sums it up...

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is
right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if
there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind
dwell on these things.

I can't think of any TV show or movie or real-life example that fits that
verse any better than our beloved Andy Griffith Show.

I do appreciate Allen's request that this be a friendly place to hang out.
That's what it is for me...a place to spend time with others who adore TAGS
as I do, and a chance to get away from all that this world is lacking in and
to find it here with you people centered around this show and what it
represents.

I do hope we can all continue to view and respect this place as a place of
refuge, friendliness, and comradery. I know that's what it is for me, and I
hope I can continue to come here to find the same from you.

I have SO enjoyed coming here every day...listening to your
stories...hearing your memories, so eloquently expressed...agreeing with you
on funny Andy scenes...and meeting new people. Thank you, Allen, for that
opportunity. And, thank you all for appreciating the things that are true,
pure, honorable...

Okay, now I'll tick a lock...

Jenny Chapman
