We know that Andy Griffith used the names of friends and acquaintances
for seen and unseen characters in the show. I always thought of Carter
French as the guy who was having a "Boiled Dinner" down at the
Firehouse, when Andy wants to escape from Gomer the House-Guest. I just
noticed in One-Punch Opie (which is not the show episode that he gets
the black eye, but the one that he stands up to the meany Steve Quincy)
that Andy refers to the boys with Opie as Billy Gray, Carter French and
those other boys.

So maybe there was a Carter French Jr.? Just doesn't seem to fit in
with Howie, Whitey, Trey, Johnny Paul...does it?

Of course how may Beasley's were there ?? Juanita, Goober (for one show)
Lorraine, etc. He must have known lots of Beasley's.

Wouldn't it be great to have your name immortalized that way? (by
having it used on the show) Why, the French family is probably very
proud of old Carter..or young Carter..or whoever he was.

the Granddaughter of Hodie Snitch
