You know I heard Raymond Bailey (Banker Drysdale of Beverly Hillbillies) was
pretty much the same way, rude and very hard to work with for the other actors
I dunno if these type of actors/actresses were unhappy or what.

Actually, the story I heard about this was it was Ron Howard and someone other
than Andy happened to be in Siler City who stopped by Francis Bavier's house.
Andy wasn't there. Ron just thought he would be neighborly and see her while he
was passing through Siler City. Since he didn't call ahead, she refused to see
him. My theory is she probably thought proper etiquette (i.e., arranging visits
with sufficient notice) should be observed regardless of who it was wanting to
visit her without a proper invitation.
But I also heard other stories how Francis would take Christmas presents over
to Rance Howard's house for Ron and Clint when they were on the show and visit
with them. So she had her soft side too.
