I've been thinking about this and maybe Barney really did play the harp part but did it in the studio and just lip syncd in the filming. Based on the previous descriptions about how the Dillards recorded in a studio for their episodes this would make sense.
Now as to Jim Lindsey I think we settled this way back that he didn't play the guitar and all of the guitar music was recorded by several other people since there were two guitars and even drums in his scene when he gets mad and auditions for his job in his first episode. I haven't seen his return episode enough to remember if he really played that part or if it was dubbed also, but I assumed it was also.
