I lived in the town of Freemont Ohio in the 1930s, which at that time was fairly small & Mayberry like & was a safe place for kids. Mama had grown up in the big city of Cleveland, so she gave my sister & I what she thought of as safety rules, one of which was never to get into a car with strangers as well as never talk to them. One day as my sister & I & our neighbor Jimmy were walking home, a car stopped & a lady asked us if we would like a ride home. Jimmy accepted but my sister & I refused & we were worried that we would never see Jimmy again. Unknown to us, was that the lady was a friend of moms & recognized my sister &,I but she wasn't someone we knew. She laughingly told my mom she had trained us well, when she related it to her. I'm sure little Leon's mom & dad knew he was safe anywhere he wandered in town, because most folks knew everybody, & knew when there was someone new in town as in the episode Stranger in Town.
