While watching the episode "Howard & Millie" (season 8) last night, Howard has
a line that, to me, summarizes the essence of his character. As Andy re-enters
the train compartment, Howard has just taken off his shoes. He says to Andy,
"Without the proper amount of tension, you might as well not even use shoe
trees at all." That cuts to the heart of what Howard is all about.
To me that sums up Howard in just a few words--every semi regular character
probably has a line that perfectly describes their charater--beyond the
classics, "Shazam" or "Nip it in the bud".
