Two submissions in one day. Well timing is everything. I have to add a
little something more to the digest. I have never been to the Indy 500.
I'm really not a huge racing fan. But I love it because its one of those
great traditions in America. One of the sentinal events....like the
Kentucky Derby, The World Series, The Super Bowl, TAGS. (ok TAGS isn't an
event...but you know what I mean)
Because of my affliction to TAGS and Jim Nabors in particular, I always make
a point of hearing him sing at the Indy 500. Yes hear. I listen to it on
radio. The Indy radio broadcast is one of the best radio productions you'll
ever hear....and they always present the singing of "Back Home Again....".
I'm not from Indiana, but I know about "new mown hay" and Sycamore trees.
And dog-gone it I can't help but cry everytime. Hearing Jim Nabors sing is
a connection back to our little make believe town in North Carolina too.
Where I imagine the new mown hay rests out by the Johnson's farm and the
Sycamores hang heavy in the summer evening. (Don't you just love that the
Johnson's painted their barn?) Its nice, real nice.
Of course the Indy marks another important day in America...Memorial Day. I
hope Barney wears that full dress uniform he got when that big motion
picture company was in town. He asked Andy if he could save it for
Decoration Day. That would be a sight!
Full Disclosure: I work in radio. Be sure to tune in for the Indy 500
broadcast Sunday! I wonder if the station in Mt. Pilot will have it on?
