I've started collecting elongated pennies, which are sometimes called
rolled, pressed, or smashed pennies. You've probably seen those machines at
tourist attractions, where you put in a penny and the machine smashes it
flat and puts a design on it.

Anyway, there's a web site called pennycollector.com that gives the
locations of these machines all over the country, including 2 machines in
Mt. Airy which have Mayberry designs. According to the website, there is
one machine in the mall near JCPenny, and another one at Specialty Gifts on
Main St. I don't know when I'll ever make it back to Mt. Airy, but if
anyone reading this message lives near there, I'd be grateful if you could
smash some pennies and send them to me. Pre-1982 pennies work best, because
cents were still made of copper back then (nowadays they are zinc, and just
copper-plated).

Naturally, I will gladly reimburse all costs, or if anybody wants to trade,
I can send some elongated pennies from Missouri. I'd like to trade for any
other designs too, even if they aren't Mayberry-related.

Thanks,
Paul Mulik

P.S. Do you think lightning will hit my backyard? I was thinking about
putting a penny out there.
