Hey to all...I have wanted to attend Mayberry days for many years but just
couldn't make it for one reason or another. I had to travel to Lexington, N.C.
the other day and saw the sign, "Mt. Airy" but due to time I couldn't check it
out. On the way back was another story...I made time. I was assisted by a very
polite and nice young Mt. Airy police officer as to the correct directions
(come to find out I was about 2 blocks from it) I stopped at Wally's filling
station for a bit the went around the block to heard down Main St. where I
parked. I walked down the sidewalk a short distance and there was Floyds Barber
Shop...I took a peek inside. and what was right down from it....Snappy's Lunch.
Now you know I wasn't gonna pass that up. I went inside and the folks there
were extra nice. Yep you guessed it, I had the pork chop sammich...minus the
chilli and some sweet iced tea. That was one fine sammich!. I knew I was short
on time so I walked slowly back to the car taking in the
stores and movie house wishing all along I had more time but was thankful for
my short visit all the same. As I headed out of town and got on the highway I
noticed a Mayberry Motor Lodge and what was in the parking lot?......the
Mayberry squad car. Well that was a nice ending to a short but sweet visit. I
hope to return with my wife and my grown kids (if I can get them all in one
place at one time...LOL) and spend a couple days even if it isn't during
Mayberry Days.
I thought my trip home was going to big a long and sad one due to the
business that brought me there was resigning from my job. But after my stop in
Mt. Airy...I had a little smile on my face for a lot of miles.
