I'm old enough to have ridden on the old bench car seats. I don't recall getting in a car and scootin' all the way over to the other side. You did have that hump in the floorboard where the drive shaft went, so it wasn't a nice clear scoot.
But the one thing that I do recall is all the scootin' around created static electricity.
