Seems I remember Opie and a girl, that he was trying to impress, {Ms. Crumps'
visiting niece, I think} jumping over a "ditch" with oil at the bottom. This
was located just to the left of the building, Wally's Garage. I always thought
this was an old time way to change oil and work on vehicles from the
underneath. The vehicle would drive over the ditch and the mechanic would walk
down into the ditch and therefore be standing under the vehicle able to work on
it from the underside. Any one else remember seeing anything like this? That
was in place of the modern day hoist lift for cars. At least that is what I
always thought it was.
