***I know they have stuff like Archie and Edith's chairs from All
in the Family and Fonzie's leather jacket***

Yep and I've seen them, too. Pretty cool. They also have Kermit the Frog,
Bert and Ernie (or did) and Howdy Doody. And they have the cell door from
"Barney Miller" along with the coffee mugs and badges used by all the
actors/characters, and I figure if either exists, one of the cell doors from
the Mayberry
jail (along with the keys) would be nice. I like the idea of Andy's uniform,
or Barney's with his hat, bullet ticket book and whistle (he replaced the pea
in it and didn't charge the county). Another prop if it exists: the dining
room table/chairs set where Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee and their guests took so many
meals.

Realistically, the two big problems are that a lot of this stuff doesn't
exist or is otherwise lost (the squad cars, for instance). Another problem is
the
Smithsonian has so much stuff they can't show it all, like most of the
interior set from "M*A*S*H" and the big soda-shop backdrop used in the earliest
"American Bandstand" shows from the 1950s. Jerry Seinfeld wouldn't give them
anything from his show because they couldn't promise they'd have room to
display
it. But then again, the Mayberry courthouse signs exist in a museum, one
squad
car is supposedly in storage, someone apparently bought Aunt Bee's toaster
from Ebay not long ago and Andy himself still has his actual gavel, so you
never
know. (Anyone know of any others?)
