I'm almost certain Mr. Schwamp (or maybe his Pa) is in the 1945 Christmas in Connecticut movie with Barbara Stanwyck. That would have been roughly 20 years prior to most of his TAGS appearances, but if it is Mr. Schwamp, he doesn't look 20 years younger. I have a feeling Mr. Schwamp looked about the same throughout his life (50ish, grim, heavyset--oh, wait a minute, the grim, heavyset character was Lee Drake).
If I recall, Mr. Schwamp was sitting in the stag chairs along the wall for a dance in Christmas in Connecticut--he's had lots of practice standing/sitting in stag lines.
