I think modes of dress can vary from family to family within any community.
Being a military family, we lived in North Carolina, California and Tennessee
at various times in our youth. As the oldest of 7, I helped with my siblings'
wardrobes. My little brothers wore ties to church, school programs and photo
sessions, and any other occasion deemed worthy by our parents. It's just like
manners, some families are more formal than others; I feel that whatever makes
you comfortable is okey-dokey as long as you don't offend the sensitivities of
others with half-nakedness and/or rudeness.
