I'm sure Simon Winkler (Harlan Warde) exercised a little discretion in his use of discipline by that old-fashioned wood shed out back. He portrayed well respected professionals like doctors, judges, police officers, and detectives during his acting career. He even played a coroner on 'Mannix' in 1968 before it was hip to play one.
