I was reading Frank McCourt's book Teacher Man about his 30 years
teaching in the NYC Public school system , despite dropping out of
school at age 14 to help out his family in Limerick, Ireland.
Anyhow, in the forward he mentions that when he wrote his firts book,
Angela's Ashes, people would ask "Who's making the movie? You could
write a book of the Manhattan telephone directory and someone would ask
'Who's making the movie?'"

That got me to thinking. What about the Mayberry Phone book? It would
make a great series. One week you might see Charlie Foley. He'd wake up,
eat breakfast with the wife, and go to work. You might see Aunt Bee
buying the pork chops for supper, or Clara Edwards buying whatever.
you'd see a day or so in the life of Charlie Foley.

Another week maybe Johnny Paul and the Jasons. What did he do when he
wasn't w/Opie? what did his dad do for a living? Was he kind &
understanding like Andy or a hitter like Larry Mondello's dad? Was Mrs.
Jason able to handle things or was she one of those "wait till your
father gets home" types? How old was his sister? Was she old enough to
date or younger than J P?

A third week maybe Floyd. What did he do when not at the barber shop?
Did he go home, pick up his wife's picture and wish she hadn't passed
away so soon? Did he call his daughter in Mt. Pilot or his boy Norman
wherever he was?

You get the idea. Take people seen only occasionally like Clara Edwards
or the ones mentioned above. We'd see Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, or Barney in
smaller roles & the others would be seen more.

Too bad I can't write. I can just come up with ideas.
