I don't intend to sound blasphemous about this, but it grieves me deeply that
Andy Griffith would handle the case of the Wisconsin
name-changer-sheriff-candidate the way he apparently has. C'mon, Andy, with all
due respect, couldn't you just think back to how Andy Taylor might have dealt
with such a trivial matter as this? Maybe Hollywood has taken its toll on you.
Afterall, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (sic) and no one seems to
have benefited or profited from the spoof as far as I can tell. And as for the
CBS roadblock to a purely well-intentioned creation of a Barney Fife statue to
further immortalize Don Knotts and the beloved American icon that he created,
what a sad, but all-too-accurate reflection of the corporate greed-driven
society that we live in today. Isn't this the very reason we would all prefer
to really live in Mayberry? I'm glad to know that Mr. Hartman assisted Mr.
Hellebrand in recouping his financial investment, but that's really not the
point of this sad debacle.
