Just a quick response to Mr. Albert Acevedo and any other concerned citizens of
Mayberry regarding "carryout etiquette" at Morelli's. Certainly you have good
reason to be cautious about choosing your words carefully when dining at
Morelli's or any fine establishment, for that matter. You've spent all that
money on a new suit, wingtips, haircut (extra tonic) and a shave, and you don't
want to blow it all by coming across like smalltown dope. Suffice it to say
that you would also want to maintain a verbal advantage. If it turns out that
you can't consume the entire meal, pounded steak or otherwise, DO NOT ask for a
"doggie bag." Show some class and request that the uneaten portion(s) are
kindly placed in a "le poche daine." At least that's what Barney would do. He
read an article about sophisticated living when he was working in Raleigh, as I
recall. "And be sure to double-tip without acting uppity about it." I can
remember him saying that to me just like it was yesterday when he called long
distance. He claimed Howard Sprague told him about the article.
