In the TAGS episode 'Malcolm at the Crossroads', I saw a beautiful candy apple red Ford Mustang. It was one of the vehicles that were dodging, (pardon the pun) Malcolm when he entered town. I kept rewinding the DVD a few frames back to admire the view. Seeing that this was only the fifth episode produced in color, it makes you appreciate that color all the more. This episode originally aired on September 27, 1965. The Ford Mustang made its debut off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964 and was first seen by many at the World's Fair in New York on April 17, 1964. (Incidentally, 'The Return of Malcolm Merriweather' first aired on April 20, 1964). All three networks showed the Mustang on April 19, 1964. Bernard Fox and Howard Morris read part of Harvey Bullock's script for 'Malcolm at the Crossroads' at a Mayberry event in Michigan around 1991.
