I was in Winston-Salem last week and decided to drive up to Mt. Airy for a couple of hours. I got to the Historic District at about 6:15 and was able to see Floyd's Barbershop, the Snappy Lunch, the squad car and jail house and everything else that is in that two or three block area. I also went over to the Andy Griffith Playhouse to take a picture of the Andy and Opie statue.
I guess I thought there would be more to the town than what I saw. Unfortunately, most of the stores seem to have just closed so I didn't get a chance to go in many of them. So I'm wondering: Did I miss something or is the Historic District what the town has to offer by way of Mayberry? All the best to you and yours.
