Hey, I am a native Tarheel and although Mayberry is a ficticous town in NC, I think we can all agree that the show was intended to be an ideal, all american town that we all became to love!
As someone mentioned the church, I think that shows of this period made an extra effort to prevent association with any certain product, place, or religion, They simply made Mayberry a place we could all call a place we would like to live. What a show. Never will be another like it! Mayberry is definatley a place we can go and feel comfort for a short while and escape the cares of this world.
