Had one of those Mayberry sightings last evening. Seemed not much on TV til I
came across a Bob Hope picture on Turner Classic Movies. The Facts of Life,
starring Bob Hope, Lucille Ball and others, 1960. A romantic comedy, which
makes a stop at the
United Airlines Desk at the San Francisco, manned by none other than William
Lanteau---we know him as Ed Sawyer....The Stranger in Town. Not a major role
in the picture, but had a couple of nice scenes interacting with Hope and Ball.

I don't know if this movie was produced by Desilu Productions, I think perhaps
it was....then released through United Artists.
The host of the Turner Classic Movie program (sorry don't know his name) said
he worked as a young man....at the Desilu Studios commenting this was a hard
movie at times for Lucy...storyline.a little close to home apparently.

But anyway....Stranger in Town is one of my favorite episodes of TAGS and I
recognized William Lanteau--Ed Sawyer immediately! Does anyone know if he
stayed around Mayberry? Apparently not if he was working at the San Francisco
airport for United Airlines?!!
As I recall, he was from New York.....so it must have been after his stay in
our favorite town!
