To the age old question of a preference for B&W over color
episodes...its almost like asking if you enjoyed your kid's teenager
years more that the childhood years. No we probably didn't love them as
much--but due to the relationship we having loving those kids...they
are special in a different way. (as are the color Andy episodes)
Personally I love episodes such as Man's Best Friend (about Goober's
talking dog) among others. It represents one of many show that
highlighted other characters such as Goober and Howard. I think Goober
really came into his own in the color seasons. I also love the one
where Otis and Howard rescue Andy from the old Carson shack. LOL ever
time Howard tries to through the water on Otis and hits Andy in the
face. What I can say with honesty is that the favorite episodes did
not come quite as often and quickly as they did in the B&W era when
Barney was on board...but I enjoy them just the same. I think even
Warren was funny in his own way, and just suffered from huge shoes to
fill.
So yeah those adolescent years were awkward at times (For Opie)
but I wouldn't trade them for anything.
