Hi folks, I have never posted to the board before, but I felt a
"compelsion" after reading Allan's post about remembering the rules and why
we read these posts. I had the honor of meeting Don Knotts in 1986 while I
was a student at Samford University. He put on a "comedy symposium" and as I
remember it, it was very good. Don was awfully shy, just like those that met
him always say.
When Don passed, to me it was like a family member passing away. Now
that may sound silly to some, but I sort of just stopped that day and
reflected on Mayberry and my own life. I didn't have a dad growing up, and I
remember watching TAGS as a kid and thinking how great it would have been to
have had a Dad like Andy or an Uncle like Barney. I also remembered going to
a meeting of the local TAGS chapter, "The Esquire Club", and what a great
time I had that night, I believe it was in 1996. I won the TAGS Theme Song
Whistling Contest that night, which was quite a treat. I also met Allan and
a few of the other members that keep this website and board running.
Anyway, when old Barn passed, I got on the internet and rediscovered
this website and forum, and I had to write and tell everyone thanks for
being a fellow "nut" like me. I read these posts everyday and usually watch
an episode every week. This website and forum help me on a daily basis, and
it helped me deal with the passing of a childhood hero by having a diversion
from the real world. Allan was right when he said that these postings are
for our enjoyment and to just get away for a few moments from this crazy old
world. It certainly has helped me, and I wanted to share with everyone a
heart felt THANKS. Now I think I'll just relax, and read a few of the
Geographics...
