There is a poll on yahoo.com today which reads "There are legal issues delaying
the construction of a statue of TV legend Don Knotts in Mt. Airy, NC, the basis
for the town of Mayberry on TAGS. What do you think?" The choices are : 1)
"Don Knotts should definitely be honored with a statue. He's the coolest!" or
2) "I'd respect the wishes of the Don Knotts estate, which doesn't want it
built."

So far the voting is heavily in favor of respecting the wishes of his estate.
That choice has 7621 votes (73%) and the other choice has 2763 votes (27%). I
voted that there should be a statue, and I think there should be, but we still
do have to respect the wishes of the family, if they are the ones who don't
want the statue. I think the choices were worded a little strangely. Most
people probably do think that Mr. Knotts deserves a statue due to his
incredible work, but then most people probably also agree that the wishes of
the family have to be respected. So that is probably why the voting went the
way it went. If the wording was simply: Should there be a statue honoring Don
Knotts?, most people would probably vote yes.

OK, can someone help me down from this soapbox, please? :) Lisa
