Yes, the Dillards do sing a song about Shady Grove--and it's a g-o-o-d one!
But I want to point out that the community of Shady Grove, Mississippi, does
indeed exist and everything I wrote about it is the truth. It's between the
towns of Mize and Magee, or about 50 miles north of Hattiesburg, 50 south of
Jackson. And it is a tiny place. One store, two churches. But who needs
anything more than that?
There is a family with the phone on a pole who will sit in a rusted car on
rainy days
and the Smith Brothers and their sister Florence really existed as I wrote
about.
Many people have said that Shady Grove is almost exactly like Green Acres, but
how the Green Acres people found out about such a small place in the middle of
nowhere Mississippi, I don't know. So, the resemblance between my Shady Grove
and Green Acres remains a mystery and a coincidence.
I just live there and I love it and its people. I wish you all could visit it.
You would not believe such a place can still exist.

Mindlebright Sisters..."
